Video tools

Three calculators to prepare a shoot: the shutter speed and ND filter you need, how much space your footage will take up, and a shot list ready to print.

Shutter speed and ND filter

Choose the frame rate, aperture, ISO and the approximate light in the scene. You get the shutter speed according to the 180-degree rule and how many stops of ND you need to lose. The why is in the exposure for video lesson. Use 24 or 30 fps in the US and 25 fps in the UK and Europe.

Bitrate and storage

How much space does an hour of footage take up? How many minutes fit on your card? Choose a typical setting or type in your camera's bitrate, which you'll find in the menu or the manual.

The typical setting values are approximate. 1 GB = 1000 MB.

Shot list builder

Choose the type of shoot and describe what it's about in one sentence. You'll get a starter shot list that you can edit by tapping any cell, add to, print or download as a CSV to open in a spreadsheet. More in script and storyboard.
